Inequalities on Projected Volumes

چکیده

In this paper we study the following geometric problem: given $2^n-1$ real numbers $x_A$ indexed by nonempty subsets $A\subset \{1,\dots,n\}$, is it possible to construct a body $T\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ such that $x_A=|T_A|$, where $|T_A|$ $|A|$-dimensional volume of projection $T$ onto subspace spanned axes in $A$? As more convenient take logarithms, denote $\psi_n$ set all vectors $x$ for which there $x_A=\log |T_A|$ $A$. Bollobás and Thomason showed contained polyhedral cone defined class “uniform cover inequalities.” Tan Zeng conjectured convex hull $\operatorname{conv}(\psi_n)$ equal uniform inequalities. We prove conjecture “nearly” right: closed $\overline{\operatorname{conv}}(\psi_n)$ However, perhaps surprisingly, also show not $n\ge 4$, thus disproving conjecture.

On the Inequalities of Projected Volumes and the Constructible Region

We study the following geometry problem: given a 2−1 dimensional vector π = {πS}S⊆[n],S 6=∅, is there an object T ⊆ R such that log(vol(TS)) = πS , for all S ⊆ [n], where TS is the projection of T to the subspace spanned by the axes in S? If π does correspond to an object in R, we say that π is constructible. We use Ψn to denote the constructible region, i.e., the set of all constructible vecto...

Projected Equations, Variational Inequalities, and Temporal Difference Methods

We consider projected equations for approximate solution of high-dimensional fixed point problems within lowdimensional subspaces. We introduce an analytical framework based on an equivalence with variational inequalities (VIs), and a class of iterative feasible direction methods that may be implemented with low-dimensional simulation. These methods originated in approximate dynamic programming...

Projected Reflected Gradient Methods for Monotone Variational Inequalities

This paper is concerned with some new projection methods for solving variational inequality problems with monotone and Lipschitz-continuous mapping in Hilbert space. First, we propose the projected reflected gradient algorithm with a constant stepsize. It is similar to the projected gradient method, namely, the method requires only one projection onto the feasible set and only one value of the ...

Random ball-polyhedra and inequalities for intrinsic volumes

We prove a randomized version of the generalized Urysohn inequality relating mean width to the other intrinsic volumes. To do this, we introduce a stochastic approximation procedure that sees each convex body K as the limit of intersections of Euclidean balls of large radii and centered at randomly chosen points. The proof depends on a new isoperimetric inequality for the intrinsic volumes of s...
